Workshops, Education and Outings Calendar 2027
Dear Members,
Have you ever wanted a lesson on a certain photographic subject or technique? Want help with editing in Photoshop or Lightroom but the google results have confused you even further? Want to know what the judges look for when evaluating your images? Keen to explore creative photography? or an outing to view work by local photographers and artists?
To improve our members satisfaction from their photography we need suggestions.
We need to know, from you, what you would like to experience in next years Workshops, Education and Outings. Just post your suggestion anytime with the title “suggestion” on the chat group and your committee will collate the requests for action.
Inspire, Motivate, Educate
Introduction to Seascapes by Jon Kerrin
Ahead of our planned Seascape workshop and outing to be led by Jon Kerrin later in the month, he kindly gave a “get started” presentation to educate us on the planning and techniques need to be successful.

This personal report back by long standing member Maureen Miller captures the essence.
“Jon introduced himself with a brief personal history and examples of his images from across the globe but explained he was convinced here in the Cape we are particularly lucky to have so much scenic landscape so close to hand.
Moving quickly to theme of the evening – Long Exposure and the importance of light.
Using long exposure techniques he proceeded to blend sea and sand with skies and rocks, while explaining how he achieved still open water and moving clouds in the same image. The moving sunset clouds added colour and texture to already wonderful images, and I felt my creative juices starting to jump!
I’ve never been successful with my attempts at long exposure, but hearing Jon explain using his slides, all became clear. Some of my favourite images were his slow exposure monochromes, where he demonstrated the whiteness of the slow-moving water around a rock, surrounded by a ‘frame’ of unmoving rocks. Stunning images.
Jon’s passion for the natural world led to his interest in astrophotography, and once again we were treated to captivating images of the milky way from various standpoints. A workshop for another day!
I want to say a big THANK YOU to Jon and his friendly, easy going and professional workshop that left us excited and inspired. The next step is to put it into practice with Jon leading us on a outdoor workshop, and when the details are announced I intend to be first in the queue”.
June Theme – Bridges – Submit by 15th June
Images where the bridge is a main compositional element, not a landscape or cityscape where a bridge is barely visible or incidental, or close-up details that don’t convey the idea of a bridge as a connector. Celebrate the art, function and symbolism of bridges – structures that connect places, people and ideas. Capture their form, design or the stories they tell through light, perspective and environment.
Scapes photography – manipulation is allowed
