May:
Sports
Submit by 18th

Includes any sporting event or recreational activity involving effort, skill and rules, at any level,  of a competitive nature.
From children sports day to horse racing, dog agility shows.
Dance productions like ballet and Air Shows are deemed not to be sport

 

Photojournalism (PJ)manipulation is not allowed.
Sports Photography – covers any aspect of a sporting event. Images must depict an active pastime or recreation involving physical exertion and/or skill that’s governed by a set of rules or customs and often of a competitive nature. Images in this section could include the spectators or judge or umpire in a sporting event.  allowed in this category.

June:
Bridges
Submit by 15th

Images where the bridge is a main compositional element, not a landscape or cityscape where a bridge is barely visible or incidental, or close-up details that don’t convey the idea of a bridge as a connector. Celebrate the art, function and symbolism of bridges – structures that connect places, people and ideas. Capture their form, design , or the stories they tell through light, perspective and environment.

Scapes photography – manipulation is allowed – shows the spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic, with or without people. Scape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes, including sea/water and under water scapes, desert / mountain / forest and city scapes. The most common thing is to recall a personal observation or experience while outdoors.

July:
Environmental Portrait
Submit by 20th

Portrait of a person in their environment, showing them and their work space or living space.

Human Portraits – a likeness, personality and mood of a living human where the subject is dominant in the image. Portraiture is not restricted to head and shoulders and may include just a part of the face, a back view or even a full-length study.

August:
Food
Submit by 17th

Food – Explore the world of gastronomy by photographing dishes, ingredients, culinary creations, and the art of food preparation and presentation. Highlights food as a central element, not images taken of restaurants, groups of people dining, etc.

Open colour – manipulation allowed. In this category the subject is totally open. Monochrome images will be disqualified.

Workshop July  23rd 

 

September:
Street
Submit by 21th

Captures candid moments of everyday life in public spaces. It focuses on people, interactions, and fleeting scenes, often highlighting emotion, social dynamics and the character of a place. The aim is to tell authentic, unscripted stories of ordinary life as it naturally unfolds.

Street Photography – manipulation is not allowed – records unposed scenes in public places. The primary subject is people and/or symbols of people, at rest or in motion, alone or with others, going about their everyday activities. Photo Travel & Street Photography – The primary subject is people and/or symbols of people, at rest or in motion, alone or with others, going about their everyday activities. Close up pictures of people or objects should include features that provide information about the environment.

Outing on 25 July (Bo-Kaap, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town) – TBC.

October:
Farming
Submit by 19th

Explore the world of agriculture by photographing the daily life, work and landscapes of farms, showcasing the agricultural process. Focuses on farming activities, landscapes or farm life, not photos of livestock without a farming context.

Open – colour or mono, manipulation allowed.

In this category the subject is totally open.

November:
Scapes
Submit by 16th

Seascapes, Landscapes or City Scapes – not Astro or Night Skies.

Outing on 26 Sept Visit to Scarborough, Muizenberg or weekend away to Greytown, Swellendam, – TBC.
