MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Greetings, everyone
One of the privileges of being Chairman (and I can assure you there are not many) is that I have the pleasure of announcing, and letting member know when they have done well with their photography. This month is one of those occasions. First, I was privileged to hand over to Karyn Parisi a gold medal that she won at the 6th PSSA International Salon. Her photo ‘Morning Contemplation’ won the gold in the Open category. Karyn you are an inspiration to us all – and great competition for Dante.
Second, I had the privilege to announce that Peter Franklin had won a silver medal at the PSSA 2022 Interclub competition for his photo ‘Ambushed’ – Hopefully we will be able to hand over the medal soon. Congratulations Peter at doing so well at both the WCPS and PSSA Interclub competitions.
Our club can be very proud of what it has achieved over the various competitions we have entered this last year. We came sixth in the WCPS Interclub – only 75 points behind the winners Tygerberg, and in the PSSA National Interclub our senior photographers came 26th out of a possible 95 clubs, and our juniors came 4th. I personally think that is a wonderful achievement, and it shows what wonderful talent we have in our club.
I just want to remind you again that there has been a switch around for ‘Theme’ for October and November. The Theme for October should have been ‘Portraiture’ but this has been move to November. The reason for this is that we have been so fortunate to have Lynne Kruger-Haye, who is Chairperson of the WCPF and a professional portrait photographer, has agreed to conduct a workshop over Zoom on Monday 3rd October, and our own Peter B has agreed to conduct a ‘practical workshop’ using Lynne’s methods on the 10th October. It was felt that moving ‘Portraiture’ to November would give us all more time to practice. So please remember that Octobers ‘Theme’ is now ‘Cityscapes’.

From your Editor’s desk
Not much from me this month, but just you wait until October. We are off tomorrow for a drive along the Garden Route to Super Tubes, Jeffreys Bay, to spend a week with family from Australia whom we haven’t seen for four long years. Our son has been a surfer since he was 10, and we suspect that he still feels like around 15 years old – and surfs like one too. Although I have hundreds of photographs of him and others on their boards and on a wave, perhaps even thousands by now, there will be many more awaiting a workover by Lightroom and Photoshop when we get back. This photography thing is a bit like a Staffie – once it bites it never lets go. I grew up in Port Elizabeth, and we were lucky enough to bring our kids up there as well, so JBay is one of my special-happy-memories places.
See you all on our return, and I hope I can tart up some pics to submit for our September meeting.
